What is Enlightened?

What is Enlightened?

This morning in the shower I started to inquire into the question, What is enlightened? Something has to be enlightened and so what is not enlightened that needs to be enlightened? Our ego of course!, was my answer. But then how can we enlighten something which isn’t there? Again I go back to the zen koan, which best describes the ego, “I saw a man that wasn’t there walking up the stair. I saw that man again today, God I wish he’d go away.”
So is enlightenment realizing that we are not our ego or is it identifying our “I” with and feeling connected to our Superconscious Source? Or does one occurrence precede the other? Do both happen at the same time? If we really are, the Superconscious Source, how can we not be it? Is it the ego that becomes aware of this and thus we gain or have the experience of enlightenment. Like a fish in water we have to jump out of what we are to experience the water. As humans we create an artificial self, the ego, which lives only in language, thoughts and mind and through it we can experience enlightenment. By jumping out of our Superconscious State, our Being (the water) we can recognize that we already was one with, immersed in our water and this recognition is enlightenment.

Is this enlightenment? What is recognizing it? It is like the eye looking at itself!

The experience of oneness created by realizing that we’re one drop in the ocean of Being, is realized by getting lost in a game of hide-n-seek, forgetting who we are by creating the illusion of ego. I am a seperate drop different from all other drops in the ocean. I am an ego enclosed in a bag of skinn called David (insert your name here). God playing hide-n-seek to create the artificial experience of separateness so He/she could get a glimpse of him/herself. This awareness of the awesomeness of being everything and nothing, omnipotent, omnipresent, omnipotent is enlightenment.

The ego is the air that the we jump into to have the experience of water.

The bottom line is we already are and always have been enlightened and we just don’t know it.
So What is Enlightened?
I don’t know! Do You?

Is Your Life “Just One Damn Thing After Another?”

Is Your Life “Just One Damn Thing After Another?”

Is your life, as Winston Churchill said, “Just one damn thing after another.” ? When life shows up as one damn thing after another this is not living the Great Life.
In this article I explore how and why life shows up like this and how this inauthentic way of being interferes with living a great life. I also offer 5 steps to get rid of this mental bug so you can take of designing and living your Great Life.
When we see life as just one damn thing after another, we are looking at things because we have created a me. The me has to do all these things to get what it wants. And when one does arrive at a goal, reaches the thing one wants then another damn thing shows up. Everybody want something from us. The me is a thing created in thought which co-creates an external world of things which must be dealt with. That is why you will never been done dealing with things so that you will be able to get to what you really want to do, to have in your life. Or if you do get it, the thing you want, it will not be enough. You will want more, better or something different or a combination of more, better and different. You can never have enough things. And things will never bring you the Great Life. This is the “rat race” a perpetual hampster wheel that you can never get off. This is a futile attempt of “the me” to create the good life by getting things.
It is a futile pursuit which leads to “living lives of quiet desperation” Thoreau
How do you transcend the thinking that creates this problem? AKA How to remove the bug called “me”.
1. Realize the world of things shows up in empty space.
2. Become conscious that you, “the me” occurs as a thing, a thought in consciousness.
3. The “me” is not a thing, rather it is a belief created by identifying with an identity created by language.
4. This identity lives in the illusion of psychological time which creates a past and a future.
5. In reality there is only now and Being-in-the-world which is consciousness.

The secret is to defuse from the “me” and see it as another object created in the world of space and things. To be able to observe these as occurring in our consciousness.
To defuse, detach dis-identify is the first step. This is a process in which we separate from our thoughts and the things that appear in the opening space of our consciousness. It is like we have welded two pieces of metal together. We have welded the me onto our consciousness or Being. The steel plate is covering our eyes or windows of consciousness. We must push this steel plate back from our eyes so we can see the world in the present as it is, with our eyes wide open.

Try this exercise to experience the process.
Put a clipboard or book over your eyes and see what you can experience with it blocking your view of what is happening in the world. Slowly move the clipboard away from your face. Notice how much more of the world you can see with it just a few inches away from your face. Notice how much more you can see with it at arms length. You have defused the clipboard from your consciousness just as you can defuse the “me” from your consciousness. This allows you to be present and open to create your Great Life in the Present moment which is all there is.

You Must Die to Truly Live a Great Life!!

“In Order to Truly Live WE Must Die Before We Die.”

“Suicide is doing on the outside what needs to be done on the inside.” Groff

What does it mean “to die before we die.” This is the question, the writer will address and how this relates to Great Mind / Great Life. This is the key to understanding the Perennial Philosophy which says the ego is an illusion, created by language, which also creates the illusion of time. The only time that exists is now.
The statement makes sense when we understand the difference between Being and mind. Mind is a creation of language, which creates memories of our experience. Being is Consciousness. The more consciously we live, the more we access Being and its creative power to design our Great Life. Identifying with mind creates an identity which we call our self or our ego. This is the false sense of Identity which must “die” figuratively. The self as an epiphenomena of mind/language must be defused or separated or dis-identified as our personal identity. We are not mind, we have a mind.
We are Being-embodied-in-human. Consciusness comes about from Being-in-the-world. We are not seperate from the world and others. We are a co-creation of Being and the world, neither one exists without the other.
We could say that the belief that we are a psychological self or ego dies when we see it does not exist in truth. It (you) are no more than an idea in your head (mind). However, the psychological self and “psychological time” will remain with ua and we will have to learn not to be identified with them, in order to live Great Life. We will begin to see them as mental objects created by an in the mind (which itself does not exist as a thing, it is a verb, a process we call thinking = using language to describe consciousness).

When the ego, the thinking mind, looks at the present moment it looks at it through the eyes of the past or as a means to a future end. It can never be in the present. “Thinking and consciousness are not synonymous.” Consciousness is no mind, consciousness is without thought. Emotions are the reaction of the body to thought. Mind includes thought and the emotions.

How does one achieve this realization?

See that you are Consciousness/Being and by not identity with the ego and livinga life of aggrandizing the ego. You are not a ghost in a bag of skin separate and at odds with all the other bags of skin. There is nothing separate in reality. Dualism and separation is created by language mapping out and making distinctions and making the mistake that the map is the territory or the menu is the meal. Language is the great magician which creates the illusions of things, past, future, psychological “ego” self, time, dualism, separatenes. Language can be the source of understanding or the source of separateness, war, judgemnt and hate. It can create “Maya” illusion or powerful distinctions to create Great Life.

How Can We Realize We Are Being/Consciousnes vs. Ego/Mind?

1. AA says you must hit the bottom and completely destroy the ego. Desperation is the door to enlightenment. Lose all hope that the ego-the “hungry ghost”, can ever be satisfied. There is always more, better and different to go after. Only after you have drank yourself to total oblivion and have lost all do you see that you are nothing and then you can turn your life over to a higher power (Great Mind).
2. Ayuasca, San Pedro, Peyote, Magic mushrooms, LSD are drugs which have been used to transcend the ego and attain enlightenment. “Suicide is doing on the outside what needs to be done on the inside.” Groff
3. Meditation is a tool to observe the mind and to see that you are consciousness
4. Yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Quong, martial arts are disciplines used to achieve presence consciousness.
5. Intense physical activity such as dancing, the two minutes drill, championship playoffs often produce time stopping, ego transcendence.
6. Love. When we lose ourselves in our connection with our lover in sexual union and just being with him or her.
7. Mind stopping. Using a mind stopping technique to practice being here and now.
8. Childbirth and being with children playing.
9. Playing anything: music, games, chess, piano, guitar, we can lose our “self”.
10. Acceptance and Commitment therapy says we can defuse from our various mental identities (selves) by getting these “aliens” unstuck from our faces so we can see them. We need not fight with these mental creations. We can accept them and put them on our figurative “bus” and continue to drive the bus to our destination creating a “Great LIFE” by design.
11. You just need to see and know the truth that you already enlightened. You are consciousness. You are and can only be here and now. It is just that you are running a program which has a virus (the ego). What’s the anti-virus? How do we reboot the computer? It is not something we have to do? It is something that we have to stop doing or learn how to stop doing for a few minutes. We must stop ‘egoing’ and we cannot as long as we have a mind or more accurately as long as we believe our mind is who we are. We must learn to detach from our mind. To get unstuck from it and its magic to create with language things, which really are not things but thoughts, and the belief in them which is also created by the language, with which they are created.

From The Four Noble Truths, Buddha
(Pain) All suffering is caused by desire. Desire is caused by the ego’s wants, its attachments and its fear that it won’t get what it wants. It wants to survive at all costs. It wants to dominate and avoid domination (Think Hitler and teenagers). It want to be right and prove others wrong. (Think evangelists and Rush Limbaugh).
All suffering in an illusion caused by identifying with an illusion.
“I saw a man who was not there walking up the stair, I saw that man again today, God I wish he’d go away.”
In order to truly live a Great Life. We must die, figuratively, because the ego cannot live a great life. The ego can only create pain and suffering, war and hate. By turning off ego mind and turning on Great Mind and tuning into Its’ creative energy, we can take off designing a Great Life for ouselves and all our fellow conscious Beings embodied in human bodies.

Self Improvement: The Problems and Myths

Self Improvement

The Problems and Myths

  1. What is self? My definition is identification with one’s thinking, mind, memories, history. Mind and self is an epi-experience of our internal languaging. This experience is reinforced by our daily repeating of one’s usual thoughts, memories and experiences and one’s shared memories with other. “Remember when we. . . “. Remembering our remembering we create a sense of who we are as a stable self, ego, presence. It is a phenomena created by language which creates and entity I will call our ego or self with a small “s”, or “mind”, with a small “m”..
  2. So our self is our mind which we experience as me, myself and I. It is really our self-talk and exists only in language. It exists only in the words we say inside our heads. It is our internal programming. Once we install these programs they run our lives. So our self is not real. It is an experience of the processes we run in our brain, in our head. We experience self as if it is a real object in the world. It is not a thing which has a color or a shape or a size and remains and exists in the world like an object. It does not exist in a place. Where is it? In our heads. Cut open your head and there is no you there.
  3. So we are trying to improve something that doesn’t exist. And not only that we are trying improve it with something that doesn’t exist. Wow pretty far out, isn’t it? “ I saw a man who was not there walking up the stair, I saw that man again today, god I wish he’d go away.” Old Buddhist Koan
  4. Great Mind or Self with a capital ‘S’. So what does exit? What is our sense of self Where does our presence come from. We have an internal observer which can watch or mind, listen to our self-talk (when it isn’t running us). This presence is our ‘Being’ our ‘Presence’, ‘Consciousness’. This is Dasein, ‘Being-in-the-world’ as Martin Heidegger calls it. It is the being of Being. It is our connection to the source of all creation. It is the ‘Ground of Being’ from which all consciousness resides. It is the internal laws and mind of the universe, Cosmic Consciousness. It is called: God. Omniescience, Omni-presence, Eternal, All Powerful, All Loving, etcetera.
  5. So what? Now that we know we don’t exist, at least the thing we identify as our self is an illusion, a hallucination created like a hologram in the mind by the web of language. WOW! What good is all this self-improvement stuff ?
  6. The point is the mind is a tool that we can use to create the Life We Desire, when we learn how to program it and de-bug the faulty programs we have .
  7. We have gotten lost in the mind and identified with it and it has used us for its survival.
  8. We must kill the ego to create our Great life.
  9. To kill the ego we must simply be present and realize that it doesn’t exist. We are not it. We disidentify with it by observing it and staying present.
  10. How do we do this? Ego exist only in the past, memories which exist in language. It exists in time, ‘psychological time’ is the experience that we have been and remain the same live iin our memories which create the sense of time.
  11. There is no such thing as time, there is only NOW!
  12. The ego cannot exist in the now. It only exists in our mind and memory through the use of language which creates them all.
  13. When we are identified with our ego, We are lost in ego. We think we are our languaging and the epi-phenonmena that it creates-our mind, our identity, our past experiences, memories, history, the cultural memes we live in, I was born in . . .. I am ___ years old. My mom and dad are ___ nationality. I went to ___ grade school, ____high school, _____ College. I am a _____(religion). I believe______. My internal blueprints around: (money, relationship, eating, health, are _____________. My childhood experiences left me with the following interpretations and beliefs:______(insert Lefkoe’s 19 beliefs. And 4 conditionings)

6 Steps To Make Yourself Invulnerable

Make a List of :

Great Memories,

Positive Experiences

and the Very Best Moments of Life

  1. Make a list of Positive Moments of Life.
  2. Practice 15 minutes of Positive Thought Daily.
  3. Practice NO Mind, Daily
  4. Practice 15 Seconds of Positive Thought and No Mind throughout the day.
  5. This Creates an impenetrable force shield.
  6. Be grateful for the journey.

Begin by remembering a great moment for 15 seconds at a time.  Do this as often as  you can.  The easiest way to do this for 15 minutes is to make a list of as many positive moments.  Review the list of items and rmember the feelings you had while in those times.  Reactivate the positive feelings you had and bring them into the present.  Do this daily and your life will be great!  This exercise allows you to program your mind to create more of these positive experiences.  Also by immersing yourself in the glow of such psotive experiences you create an inpenetrable force shield from negative experiences.  You also attract more positive experiences.  You know what you like and you are looking for more of it.  Your reticular activating system (RAS) will begin to notice similar situations.  What ever you focus on you get more off!!!  Get more positive, memorable using this simple practice.  Make it a habit.  You have to Habit to Have-It!” ©
